José Luis Moscovich the librettist for Corpus Evita,
studied music at the National University of Rosario, in Argentina. A
US resident since 1981, he has been active as a clarinetist and as a
choral and orchestral conductor. In San Francisco he has been guest
conductor of the Bay Area Concerto Ensemble, and the Concerto Orchestra,
and principal guest conductor of the ARTEA Chamber Orchestra. He has
also appeared as guest conductor with the UCSF Orchestra and the Marin
Chamber Orchestra among others. He has conducted the resident Chamber
Orchestra at the Teatro El Círculo opera house in Rosario, Argentina,
and he has also appeared as guest conductor with the Nova Vista Symphony.
Maestro Moscovich has also been active as a judge in vocal competitions.
In October 2005, he conducted a new production of Mozart's Die Zauberfloete
for the opening of the 50th season of the West Bay Opera. He was assistant
conductor of the San Francisco Choral Society and music director of
the San Francisco Women's Chorus and San Francisco Jewish Folk Chorus.
Maestro Moscovich is the founder and conductor of the San Francisco
Camerata. The Camerata's compact disc of Latin American works, released
by Klavier Records Intl., has received critical praise, and it has been
featured in radio broadcasts in the US (KKHI, KDFC, WNYC) as well as
in Latin America, Europe and Australia. On the occasion of the Camerata's
premiere of Corpus Evita at the Yerba Buena Center Theater in
San Francisco, on September 2, 2000, the San Jose Mercury News noted:
"Moscovich conducted with alacrity and elegance." About the
Corpus Evita recording, James Reel noted in Fanfare magazine: "Moscovich
conducts an assured, vibrant performance."
